what you need to know about high blood pressure

how does hypertension affect my eyes?

If hypertension affects the eyes, it can cause the following symptoms:

  • blurred vision
  • double vision
  • loss of vision
  • headaches

In patients with diabetes, hypertension can quickly affect their vision, Dr. Keith Ferdinand says. "They can develop retinopathy, which affects the small vessels behind the retina and can lead to blindness."

Preventive care tip: Get regular eye exams. They can help prevent a heart attack or stroke by detecting damage to the retina (caused by hypertension) early on.
