The Scoop on Sodium

Take Action Against Sodium

So what can you do to help lower your sodium intake?

• Research low-sodium alternatives to your favorite foods online.

• Read food labels. (Tip: A formula for quickly assessing sodium in the grocery store is to remember that 150 mg is 10 percent of the daily limit of 1,500 mg.)

• Record how much sodium you’re eating in a notebook or on a computer spreadsheet.

• Revise your eating in favor of more fresh fruits and vegetables. Eating a variety of potassium-rich fresh produce helps keep blood pressure levels down.
