4 Tips to Remember To Take Your Medications

3 of 6

Tip 2: Take Medication During Other Daily Rituals

Tying in medication times with daily customs is an easy way to make the medications a routine.

• Take your medication when you sit down to read the morning newspaper or watch the morning news.

• Before you start clearing the table after your evening meal, take those medications that need to be taken before 6 p.m. or after a meal, such as the blood pressure medicine Toprol or many of the statins.

• Dogs need to walk every day or be let outside and you need to take your medication, so here’s a two-for-one. Either before or after your walk, make this your reminder.

• If your routine tends to be more regular before bed than around dinnertime, this is also a helpful habit to get into, especially for statin users. Before you turn down the covers, brush your teeth, or curl up with a good book, have all your medication supplies handy in your bathroom or on your nightstand for easy access.
