Tips For Exercising in Cold Weather

Keep moving

You can keep up outdoor activities on all but the coldest days. "In single digits, you'll probably be uncomfortable," Ives warns. "Below zero, it's dangerous. But you can't freeze your lungs by breathing cold air. That's a myth." A more realistic risk is frostbite, especially for your fingers, toes, and ears, so make sure you dress properly. If the wind-chill factor is too daunting, you can take your workout inside, either to a gym or to your living room. Plenty of exercise DVDs are available. "You don't need much space, and you don't need much equipment," Robinson says of her Pilates videos. "If I can do the exercises in a London hotel room, you can do them anywhere."
