How to Buy Avocados

A slight neck, rather than a rounded top, indicates the fruit was tree-ripened, which usually means better flavor. 

Avocados are most flavorful when ripe. The popular Hass variety will be almost black. Other varieties may be light green when ripe.

A ripe avocado will be slightly soft and free of dark, sunken bruises. To ripen, store in a brown paper bag at room temperature. Do not refrigerate.
