Cranberries: High in Antioxidants

Bright red and deliciously tangy, cranberries make a festive addition to holiday meals. The bonus: Cranberries are on the top 10 list of foods with the highest antioxidant levels. Add cranberries to your diet for a burst of flavor and a boost to your health. These recipes feature cranberries in everything from appetizers to desserts.
For years, doctors have touted the fact that cranberries prevent harmful bacteria from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract, thus cutting down on the possibility of infections. Now researchers also point out that cranberries are high in antioxidants and other phytonutrients important for protecting the body against heart disease, cancer, and other conditions, such as memory loss.
Cranberries at Their Peak
In the winter months, when fresh cranberries are readily available, stock up. They’ll keep well in the refrigerator up to 4 weeks. Or stash them in your freezer up to 12 months for year-round use.
