escape your family history of heart disease
your family tree and heart disease
Charting your family’s medical history is the first step toward countering hereditary heart disease. Be sure to share it with other family members at risk. Plus, take the results to share with your doctor at your next appointment.
The chart should include columns for your immediate family (mother, father, grandparents, siblings, sons, and daughters) and answer the following questions:
• Are they still living?
• Do they have heart disease?
• Did they have a heart attack before age 55 if male and 65 if female?
• Have they had a stroke?
• Do they have diabetes?
• Do they have high cholesterol?
• Do they have high blood pressure?
