The American Heart Association has a downloadable family tree brochure, complete with a fill-in-the-blank family medical tree. Access it by clicking here. Once you’ve filled in the information, consult with your doctor. “All adults at risk for heart disease should undergo a preventive checkup and assess their cardiovascular risk on a yearly basis,” says Erin Michos, M.D. “Education is power. Knowing your family history can help direct what types of screening tests you get and prevent problems before they start.”
