Dad's heart attack was A Wake-Up Call
Keys to Heart Health
Lori tells her patients to write their own prescriptions for health to post on the fridge or bathroom mirror. Here are some of the reminders she suggests:
- Eat fish. Two servings of fish per week increase your levels of heart-protective omega-3 fatty acids.
- Exercise 30 minutes per day. Brisk walking, swimming, dancing, and gardening all count. Aim for a total of at least 30 minutes of moderately intense activity each day; to lose weight, aim for 60 minutes a day.
- Partner with your physician. Plan an annual checkup to build a relationship and to monitor your health.
