What to Expect During Cardiac Rehab

After a heart attack or cardiac event, you may be encouraged to try cardiac rehabilitation to help you move toward a heart-healthy lifestyle. Here's what you can expect.

If you have a heart attack or cardiac event and nobody at the hospital speaks to you about participating in a cardiac rehabilitation program, ask! You need a referral to be in a program. Insurance plans generally cover phase 1 and most of phase 2, but rarely phase 3. Be sure to check with your insurance company before beginning a program.

For the most part, cardiac rehabilitation programs contain the same elements in each phase.
