Waiting For Healthy Living to work
Q: I always hear that healthful eating, losing weight, and exercising can have a positive change in blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. How long until I see a change?
A: Combine exercise (30 minutes at least five days per week) with a heart-healthy diet that is low in saturated and trans fats, cholesterol, and salt. Eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables daily. Cut down on your portion sizes, and choose more whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and unsaturated fats such as canola or olive oil. A heart-healthy diet can lead to weight loss, reduction in LDL (bad) cholesterol, and lower blood pressure. The positive effects can be seen in as few as six weeks.
