CPR for Infants

Click here for video demo of infant CPR, courtesy of University of Washington School of Medicine.

1. Lay the infant on his/her back and gently tilt the head back and lift the chin slightly. Don't tilt too far back.

2. Cover the infant's mouth and nose with your mouth and give two small breaths, watching for the chest to rise with each breath.

3. Use two or three fingers in the center of the chest, just below the nipples, and give 30 gentle chest compressions at the rate of 100 compressions per minute. Press down about one-third the depth of the chest.

4. Repeat the two breaths and 30 chest compressions until help arrives. If you're alone, perform CPR for two minutes before calling 911.
