munchies to go

Grab an inexpensive plastic crafts box with snap-on lid and fill the sections with different finger foods such as no-salt pretzels, nuts, dried fruit, or whole grain cereal. Or pack these snacks to tote:

  • Super Spread: Combine 4 ounces softened low-fat cream cheese with 2 tablespoons finely chopped celery and 2 tablespoons shredded carrot. Add a splash of nonfat milk and some sunflower kernels. Spread on apple slices or crackers. Carry in a cooler.
  • Nutty-Cinnamon Popcorn: Spread 6 cups popped popcorn on a baking sheet. Lightly coat with nonstick cooking spray. Sprinkle popcorn with 1 teaspoon salt and a dash of ground cinnamon. Add toasted almonds.
  • Go Fish: Let family members create their own trail mix. Items to try: whole grain or baked crackers, peanuts, dried banana chips, dark chocolate chips, and dried cranberries or raisins.
