3 tips for family travel
Travel expert Suzanne Rowan Kelleher of WeJustGotBack.com dishes up healthy advice for your summer holiday.
1. When traveling to a city, look for playgrounds. “They’re a really good way to let your kids run off a little steam when you visit somewhere,” Kelleher says. Visit www.GoCityKids.com for the best playgrounds in your destination. Keep your city trip active by walking instead of taking a taxi or the subway. At historic monuments, ask about nearby footpaths.
2. Sign up for a volunteer vacation. For kids ages 10 and up, helping to build houses for hurricane victims, helping maintain national parks, or taking part in other volunteer activities builds character (and even muscle). For more information on volunteer vacations, visit www.earthwatch.org or www.globalcitizens.org.
3. Take a cruise. Many cruise lines have action-geared kids’ clubs for toddlers through teens. Whether you’re looking into a cruise or a resort vacation, be sure the kids’ club program is divided into separate age groups so your child will be able to participate in age-appropriate activities.
