For a quick de-stress fix, take advantage of your lunch break and spend some time walking outdoors.
"Exercising really makes a difference: It lowers LDL (bad cholesterol), raises HDL (good cholesterol), and gets your metabolism going," says Suzanne Sorof, M.D., a cardiologist at Banner Estrella and Banner Good Samaritan Medical Centers in Phoenix, specializing in women's cardiology. "You need to get out of your cubicle and stretch your legs."
Organizational psychologist Ben Dattner, Ph.D., agrees.
"Take a walk around the block and get some sunshine throughout the day," says Dattner, founder of Dattner Consulting, a group that works with organizations to enhance business dynamics. "Your body has natural rhythms. If your body doesn't know it's day or night, it can be problematic. Keeping biorhythms can be important."
