Avandia Alert

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration advises patients who are taking the diabetes drug Avandia, especially those who have had heart attacks or heart disease, to seek advice from their physicians. A review of studies showed that the drug may increase the risk of heart disease by 43 percent and increase the risk of death by heart attack by 64 percent. The alert also includes Avandamet and Avandaryl, pills that combine Avandia with other diabetes drugs.
