Pain-Free Heart Test
By Doug Donaldson
A cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device can snap a detailed, 3-D picture of your heart without sending scopes through your veins. “The technology can evaluate chest pain and can be quicker and more accurate than stress testing, electrocardiograms, or other diagnostic techniques,” says John Heitner, M.D., of New York Methodist Hospital. The cardiac MRI creates images of the heart and blood vessels in 15–45 minutes. In the past, doctors injected contrast material to look at the heart.
