Father-son Dynamic Duo

In His Own words

Born a quadriplegic and unable to speak, Rick Hoyt eventually learned to communicate one letter at a time through a device that interprets his eye and head movements. Here, he takes the time to answer questions about life, races, and what he would get his dad for Father’s Day.

Q: What is it you enjoy most about participating in the events?
A: When we are out running, my disabilities seem to disappear. I feel like a free bird.

Q: What’s the best part of a race?
A: I love the competition, especially when we are passing other runners.

Q: If you could do or give your father anything for Father’s Day what would it be?
A: I have thought long and hard about this: If I were not disabled maybe I would play hockey, baseball, or football. Then I thought I would have Dad sit down in the running chair and I would push him.
