how ida keeps it fresh

ida's top tips

1. Shop at least twice a week for fresh produce. You’ll get the best flavor and most nutritional value that way.

2. Sprinkle on some cheese for a special taste, but remember—a little goes a long way.

3. Try homemade grilled pizzas. Slide a homemade pizza crust (or one from your neighborhood market) onto the grill, cook it on both sides, then top it with whatever is in the fridge. Add barbecued chicken or sliced tomatoes, feta cheese, and kalamata olives. Another time try sliced pears and blue cheese.

4. Make a quick soup. Start by cooking a handful of chopped onions and a minced garlic clove in hot olive oil until tender. Add sliced or chopped vegetables (in the summer, try zucchini, summer squash, carrots, corn, and/or peas). Pour in chicken broth and cook until vegetables are tender. If desired, stir in some cooked chopped chicken or turkey. Stir in a sprinkling of fresh herbs and a dash of pepper. Measurements aren’t necessary. Add more vegetables if you like a thick soup.
