ida's fab 5 fresh fruits
Blueberries
Not only are blueberries a tasty treat, but they’re also rich in antioxidants that protect against heart disease and stroke. Load them into pancakes or layer them with vanilla yogurt and crumbled macaroons.
Dragon Fruit
The appearance of dragon fruit is out of this world. A vivid fuchsia peel protects the soft melonlike flesh full of tiny black seeds. It’s sometimes called a strawberry pear and will remind you of a kiwifruit. Just slice it and scoop out the soft flesh. It’s best eaten fresh with a spritz of lime or lemon juice.
Figs
Figs are packed with potassium, a mineral helpful in controlling blood pressure. Figs also are high in fiber. For an appetizer, cut fresh figs in half and top the halves with light cream cheese or soft goat cheese and some finely chopped nuts.
Green Keitt Mango
A nutrition powerhouse, mango is loaded with vitamin C (1 cup mango chunks fulfills 76 percent of your recommended daily value), plus vitamin A, and stress-reducing B vitamins. This variety, grown in California, is large, meaty, and free of stringy fibers.
Moscato Grapes
Seedless, firm, and sweet, these grapes make a terrific snack. Freeze individual grapes in a single layer on a baking sheet, then store the frozen orbs in a freezer bag and enjoy them one at a time.
