100-Pound Weight Loss: Mark Weaver

Weight Loss Tips for Success

Use the strategies that Mark Weaver did to achieve your weight loss goals.

Get going gradually. Mark's mantra of "move a little more, eat a little less" helped him lose 100 pounds. Start small and ease into an exercise routine.

Create goals. Whether you want to walk a mile or fit into your skinny jeans, your weight loss goals don't have to include running marathons. Just keep your eyes on the prize-whatever it is.

Don't give up. It's okay to have bad moments, Mark says. "Just try not to have bad days-but if you do, realize it, move on, and get back on track," Mark says.

Eat three meals a day. Mark keeps his diet healthful by adding whole grains, lean protein, fruits, and veggies to his meal plan.

Try new things. Before overhauling his weight loss plan, Mark lovingly referred to his wife's stair-climber as the "stare master" because he did nothing more than look at it. Now, he enjoys adding stair-climbing exercises to his routine.

Enlist an exercise partner. "On those mornings when you don't always feel like working out, you know someone else is counting on you to be there," Mark says.

Write it down. Mark keeps a daily food journal to track what, when, where, and why he eats. For workouts, he notes the date, length of time, type of workout and distance (if running).

Mix it up. Incorporate both cardio and strength training into your routine. Change your workouts every five to six weeks (include interval training) to help maximize results. "My biggest mistake was not including strength training from the start," Mark says.
