light smoking, heavy consequences
By Sally Finder-Koziol
Even smokers who light up just one to four times a day face triple the risk of dying from heart disease, new research has found.
A study published by the British Medical Journal quashes the notion that light smokers escape the serious health problems faced by heavier smokers. It also highlights the added risks faced by women. Female smokers are almost five times as likely to die of coronary artery disease or lung cancer than their nonsmoking peers, the study shows.
